Northwest Indiana April Lake Effect Hui Hui

The April NW Indiana meetup shall be in Crown Point, Indiana: the Hub City (seat of Lake County), famous in the 20^th century for being both the site for celebrity weddings, and John Dillinger. 100 years ago, Rudolph Valentino began the trend; and it being a trend, along followed were Red Grange, one of the Chicago Bears’ first star players, the King of Pop’s (Gary born and raised Michael Jackson), mother and father, and boxer Muhammed Ali. Why did Lake County issue seven times as many marriage licenses as Cook County next door? Because it was the Las Vegas of the day; the easy, instant marriage certificate.

89 years ago this past March, John Dillinger, the bankster-robbing gangster in jail for robbing a bank in East Chicago and shooting a policeman to death on the way out, escaped the Crown Point jail. Did he use a soap gun or a wooden one? Who knows.

Then Dillinger died, and Las Vegas became the wedding Hub City, and Crown Point fell into obscurity. Until it became a spot on the No Agenda meetup circuit!

P.s.: It’s named Crown Point because the original courthouse was built on the highest spot in the county: the point of the crown, get it?

The meetup shall begin at 5 p.m. at Off Square Brewing, 11000 Delaware Parkway, Crown Point, IN, 46307. I-65 to Exit 249 (109^th Avenue). Zip around the roundabout to bear westbound. You’ll see one street light under construction; go to the next, functioning one (Delaware Pkwy). Turn south. You’ll see a big warehouse with signs that say Off Square Brewing on it. That is Off Square Brewing. Do **NOT** park at the pickle ball place just north next door; you will get towed. People in The Current Year need their pickle ball, and the pickle ball place needs it customers, too. All ages until 9 p.m.
